As a documentary photographer, my work is rooted in a personal commitment to capturing and shedding light on the issues that affect my community. My experiences have taught me the importance of being aware of the injustices surrounding me, and I use my art to bring attention to these issues and inspire change.

In July 2019, I visited family in Madison, Mississippi, and while I was there, I took early morning runs around the neighborhood. As a person of color and immigrant, I have learned to be hyper-vigilant to avoid potential trouble, and these early morning runs were no exception. Unfortunately, this heightened sense of awareness is not unique to me. It is a trauma passed down through generations of marginalized communities subjected to centuries of racism, violence, and oppression.

My photographs are not simply documents of a protest or a moment. They reflect the deep-seated emotions and thoughts of the people fighting for equity and justice, and as long as there is no justice, there will be no peace.
